Fresh produce, everyday essentials, and prices that respect your budget β Mama Watoto has stocked Kakamega's shelves since 1973, one family at a time.
It started in 1973 on Cannon Awori Street, Kakamega β a single shop selling everyday consumer goods to neighbors who needed somewhere close and trustworthy. John and Lucy named it Mama Watoto β "mother of children" β because every sale was, in their words, feeding a family, not just a shilling.
Word spread, and over the decades the family opened branch after branch β Nyahururu, Mumias, back to Kakamega, and now our modern Lutonyi branch. Five branches, five decades, and what hasn't changed is the reason we open our doors every morning: so no family has to choose between quality and affordability.
John and Lucy open the first shop, the very start of Mama Watoto.
The 2nd branch opens, carrying the same name and the same promise.
A 3rd branch follows, reaching more families across the region.
Back to where it all began, with a 4th branch in Kakamega town.
